Veldskoen quite literally means “Field Shoe” in Afrikaans; one of South Africa's eleven National Languages. If you find it difficult pronouncing the word "Veldskoen", you can also call them "Vellies." The nickname is used by many South African cultures and it seems to roll off the tongue a little easier.
Our Veldskoen shoes are unisex and have a wide fit. We recommend gents order their usual SA/UK size, and ladies order one size smaller than they normally would. If you're unsure about what size to get, consult our size guide, or contact us at email@example.com. We will be happy to put you on the right path and get you the very best fit.
Your Vellies may take a week or two of wear to break in and conform to your feet. Once they do, they will be so comfortable, you might see them as an extension to your feet.
Our Veldskoen are handmade in an ethical factory by master craftsmen and women in Kwa-Zulu Natal. This region of South Africa is known for its shoe manufacture throughout the world. We visit our factory often and we have a good relationship with the staff there.
Our shoes are made from fully tanned bovine leather, sourced from a handful of local tanneries. We use a full grain reversible suede (1.8/2.0mm) which is a sustainably and ethically harvested, by-product from local the meat industry.
Because we use full grain leathers, finishes may differ slightly between shoes, or areas on a pair of shoes. We love these unique textures and believe they are part of what gives Veldskoen their beautiful character!
We advise using a suede/nubuck cleaning product to clean every once in a while. Our favourite option is Spotless Shoe Cleaner
Don’t wash your Vellies with water. If they do get wet, let them dry in the sun. Scrunch newspaper into balls and stuff inside to hurry the drying process.
Veldskoen are made from 100% genuine African raw hide bovine leather. When we make a pair of shoes, we don't use composite leather to get a uniform look. All the leather is cut from one hide. That is why, in some cases, there may be a very slight variance, in texture and shade, from one shoe to the other. We love this uniqueness. We call it character!
Selected Veldskoen products are available from Outdoor Warehouse and selected Woolworths stores.
